Good...but does not play up to expectations
The Cory Henry show in Oakland was overall, just "good". Unfortunately, it could have been much better. Especially when you take into consideration what some of the preceding shows were like, there were many misses. They had about 12 globe-like drones that can give off multiple light shows within them. However, in Oakland, for reasons unbeknownst to me, they did not use them. Could it be the liability issues in California in case one of them fails and falls into the audience? Or could it have been technical in nature. Whatever the case, for a tour with the title theme of Drones, you "have" to make sure they work. Otherwise, do not tease the audience that they may come into play at some point in the show. But that was it! Only two of the Drones came down on the opening song. They remained at the top of the arena silent and lifeless for the remainder of the show. Apparently, this was not the case looking at pictures of the preceding shows in Portland and Seattle. A big miss there. Another miss was not including their best song on the new album "Reapers" on the set list. I could not wait to see it played live. It was on the set list for all the preceding shows but was replaced by "resistance" beginning in Portland. An unbelievable song that would have been a powerhouse to hear, especially when the song's theme is about drones coming to get you. A big miss there. The third miss was the theme itself. The Drones CD is a theme and tells a story. It should have been played in its entirety beginning to end. Instead, they interplayed their hits amongst the songs off the new album and again, skipped "Reapers" and should have played "Defector" from it as well. Cory Henry, your set up and planning could have been better to make this visual spectacle even better than it was.
